We are coffee fanatics over here. We live in Santa Cruz, CA, where we have some brilliant local roasters. If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, then you probably know all about my on-and-off relationship with coffee. Well … I am happy to announce that we’re back on!
I recently had a chance to try some amazing coffee from Wild Foods. This stuff was so delicious. It may have been the smoothest cup of coffee we’ve ever brewed at home.
In addition to tasting amazing, Wild Foods is a very socially and environmental responsible company. I am not going to dive too deep here, but there are some major issues to consider when selecting coffee. Often workers are underpaid and work under harsh conditions. Also, most non-organic coffee is heavily sprayed with pesticides. If you are interested, just google it and tons of articles will come up. I recommend choosing organic AND fair-trade coffee as often as possible.
All Wild Foods coffees are organic, single-origin, fair-trade and insanely fresh roasted in Austin, Texas! They also process in a way that has been shown to reduce mold risk tremendously. It’s really incredible stuff!

How to cold brew coffee
Have you ever wondered how to make cold-brew coffee at home? I sure have! Those $3-$4 bottles of cold brew coffee from the health food store add up quickly! I asked my friends over at Wild Coffee how to do it and they gave me some great instructions and also let me share their method with you!
Ingredients & Tools
85g or ~3oz of Wild Coffee (find it here)
1 liter or 34oz of filtered water
Glass container pre-chilled in fridge (a mason jar or french press works great)
Paper filter or french press for straining
1 – Grind beans to a medium grind size. Add grounds to cold water and stir.
2 – Make sure all grounds become wet.
3 – Seal container and put in fridge.
4 – After a few hours, stir again to make sure all grounds are submerged in water.
6 – From here, add ice and drink black. I highly recommend trying this, so you can really experience how smooth the coffee is. Or add cream or non-dairy milk and enjoy.
7 – Store in airtight container in fridge. For best results, drink within a few day of brewing.
Homemade Dairy-Free Vanilla Latte
- Place all ingredients in a high power blender and blend for about 30 seconds or until the coffee mixture is well combined. This is the blender I use.
