This DIY Dry Shampoo is one of my most used products. I’ve been using it multiple times a week for over a year now.
Confession time! I hate – like, really hate washing my hair. It’s not the easiest to manage. If I don’t do anything to it after I wash it, I have a frizzy mess on my hands. And who has time to spend an hour blow drying and straightening? Not this mama!
Luckily, since following many of Real Food Liz’s tips in her eBook, I wash my hair so much less. I used to be an everyday washer and now I get away with once or twice a week, especially when I add this DIY Dry Shampoo to the equation.
This DIY Dry Shampoo has also really helped cut back on how often I have to put a flat-iron to my hair. Which, in itself, has helped my hair look and feel much healthier.
I’ve seen DIY Dry Shampoo recipes floating around Pinterest for years. I’ve tried a bunch. Many of them didn’t work very well for my dark brown hair. After tons of experimenting, I’ve found what I believe to be the perfect ratio of ingredients for dark hair.
(If you have light hair, cut back on the cacao powder in this recipe and increase the arrowroot powder to make up for it.)
For an added nutritive boost, I LOVE adding essential oils to my dry shampoo! It adds a wonderful scent and it can have benefits for your hair too!

Got issues with dandruff? Try 3 drops of Tea Tree (also known as Melaleuca)
Got dry scalp issues? – Try 3 drops of Cedarwood
Got oily scalp issues? – Try 3 drops of Peppermint
Issues with hair loss? – Try adding 3 drops of Lavender or Frankincense
Want soft hair that smells nice? – Try adding 3 drops of Lavender
